Dr. Alejandro Díaz-Bautista
Dr. Alejandro Díaz-Bautista received his Masters and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Irvine. He earned his B.A. in Economics at ITAM. Currently, he is a fellow at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies. He has been a Professor of Economics and Researcher at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte. While there, he was head of the Master’s Program in Applied Economics and coordinated the working paper series in economics. Previously, he worked at the Energy Regulatory Commission and the Ministry of Energy. He has written various books and articles in refereed scholarly journals both at the national and international level. His book “The Determinants of Economic Growth: Convergence, Trade and Institutions”, was recognized by the European Union Publishers Forum as part of its key publications. His latest books are “Problemas Estructurales de la Economía Mexicana”, “International Experiences in Power Deregulation” where he examines the energy structural reform in Mexico and around the world, and is coauthor of “Modern Regional Economics” and “Crecimiento con convergencia o divergencia en las regiones de México”. He was also recognized by CONACYT as a Distinguished National Researcher level II. During 2008, he also served as a nonpartisan member of the Technical Committee on Education and Training Policy at the Federal Electoral Institute. He has lectured and participated in international seminars and conferences in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. Professor Díaz-Bautista's research interests and expertise are based in the fields of international economics, industrial organization, energy economics and economic growth, with special interest in the Mexico-United States border regions.
